Die Tagua-Nuss ist der Samen einer Palme, die in den tropischen Regenwäldern Südamerikas zu Hause ist. „Phytelephasmacrocarpa“ ist der wissenschaftliche Name dieser Pflanze, was abgeleitet soviel wie pflanzliches Elfenbein bedeutet. Die Konsistenz, das Aussehen der Tagua und ihr cremeweißer Farbton sind dem Elfenbein sehr ähnlich. Die Tagua bietet sich daher ideal als tier- und umweltfreundlicher Ersatz für tierisches Elfenbein an. Auch überrascht das leichte Gewicht der verarbeiteten Steinnuss und durch seine anschmiegsame, warme Struktur lässt sich das Naturmaterial angenehm auf der Haut tragen.
